Online casino gambling is a threat to the Italian economy?
Italy’s relationship with online gambling has undergone several changes over the last few years. Initially, Italy did not have any major regulations regarding online. However, after the United States introduced significant legislation related to online gambling, Italy made the decision to impose their own regulations on online gambling. At first, they actually tried to ban all IP addresses that related to online gambling. However, they eventually decided to instead pursue a more legalized online gambling environment (much like the system used in the UK).
Italy’s current system no longer makes it illegal for Italians to take part in online gambling. It does requires that three percent of all gambling revenues generated through business with the citizens of Italy be given to the Italian government. Instead of taking the extreme measures of banning online gambling, Italy’s approach has allowed a legal online gambling market to be established.
So, is online gambling a threat to the Italian economy? While it may have been at one point, the current system is actually setup in a way that allows online gambling to help the Italian economy. Not only does it help stimulate the government, but it also makes it possible for Italian companies to be created around the online betting and gambling industry. Hopefully, countries like the United States will rethink the extreme measures they’ve taken against online gambling and instead implement a more sensible system like the ones in Italy and the UK.
